Unable to update Windows Media Player due to failed validation RRS feed

  • Question

  • I bought a Garmin GPS for my dad this Christmas that came with Lifetime Traffic and Map Updates. In order to activate them onto your device, you would need to have Windows Media Player 11 installed to your machine. Thus, Garmin brought us to where we can download it from Windows by bringing us to this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/download-windows-media-player

The computer I am attempting to do this on runs Windows XP 32-bit, so we chose the section on the page from the link that said Windows XP, and clicked the big "Get it now" button. That brought us to here http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-media-player-details.aspx

This page basically told us that we needed to validate our machine in order to download Windows Media Player 11. Because of this we pressed the continue button (with English selected). This brought us to the following page: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/exe-validation.aspx?id=8163

We clicked the continue button and ran the .exe file that it downloaded. That gave us a code that we copied to the clipboard, then pasted it in the window above the validate button in step 2. on the last mentioned page. We then clicked Validate.

Finally, that brought us here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/handoff.aspx?id=8163&LegitCheckError=8 we pressed the continue button again. Now we are at this page: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/genuine

What are we supposed to do next? It does not tell us how to finish the validation process, or whether or not it was done correctly. This is important to us because we need Windows Media Player v11 or higher in order to run the program that syncs the map updates from Garmin to my dad's GPS.

Thank you ahead of time for your time :)
