Recovering VMs after 2 disk RAID 5 failure RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello was wondering if anyone has had this issue and couold point me in the right direction

I had a 2 disk failure of my RAID 5 VM host running 7 VMs

Sent out to data recovery and they were able to recover the files and will be sending it back to me on Monday.

While I was waiting for this I rebuilt the server and have it ready to receive VMs. The question I have is what is the best and easiest way to put these VMs into the new server from the large drive they are sending me back?

I know how to do from backup where I copy file over to the host , create a new VM, allocate Ethernet ports, memory and resources, then use existing VM.

But this seems a bit different? For this scenario I believe I just need to copy over the recovered VHDs and then import them and they should already have the other information and settings accomplished.

    Is this right?

    any assistance is appreciated.

  • What hypervisor?  Version?

This forum is specific for Virtual Server 2005, but my guess is you're not using that platform.

For Hyper-V, the best place for support is here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverhyperv/threads
