WiFi GPO works for Win7 but not fully for Win8 - help!

  • Hello,

We have a new WiFi network installed and I have a GPO that puts the new SSID as the preferred WiFi and our old WiFi as second. All Win7 laptops new and old connect automatically after they get the GPO, but Win8 laptops do nothing unless you manually select the new WiFi SSID, how can I force them onto the new SSID WiFi network like the Win7 laptops?  They use the same GPO.

  • Hi TB303,

    Thanks for your post.

According to your description,  it should work in Windows 8, as soon as its not now we may need to troubleshoot the client side instead of the server one.

Could you run a gpresult / rsop report on the windows 8 computer and see what policies are being applied / not applied and any errors.

Please check the event log either.

And also check if there's some update, install the patch to have test again.

Besides, there are some common problems for causing Group Policy To Not Apply, you could take a look.

  • I will take a look at the results, the GPO is applying as the new SSID show up with the new one at the top of the list it just wont connect unless I manually do it,  it will stay connected forever, but I cant do this for 100s on Win 8 tablets.
