Failed software update returns error code 0x87D00668 - PART2 RRS feed

  • This is something which has already been discussed on Thread on year 2012-

  • Did you force the Software Update Scan Cycle to occur? did you wait at least 15 minutes before refreshing the SW center?

    Are those x86 computer? have you applied the SU to fix an issue with WUA?

    Yes we did force the SU Scan Cycle and wait for some time but it's negative.

    We've x64-based systems in our environment.

    The only thing which we did not perform is applying SU with WUA.  :-(

    But i am sorry to inform you that as we're running out of "Time" we've format the machine now. You may now count this as "close" Garth.

    The only thing which we did not perform is applying SU with WUA.  :-(

    But i am sorry to inform you that as we're running out of "Time" we've format the machine now. You may now count this as "close" Garth.

    So if re-installing the OS fixes he problem, then we can assume that problem existed on the PC only. and my guess is that it was due to corrupted data, in any of the following items: WUA, WMI, HD, OS, etc.

  • Have you already examined the logfiles (WindowsUpdate.log, WUAHandler.log, U*.log)?
    0x87D00668 = Software update still detected as actionable after apply. Source: System Center Configuration Manager

    @Torsten: Yes I've examined the log files you said and it says Update has already been installed. Below are the lines taken from UpdateDeployment.log

    Thing is that, software updates on above mentioned picture has been showing on software Center, as failed with error code 0x87D00668, for almost 4 months from now.

    Checked all software update related logs and found that mentioned patches, on above pic, already got installed with failed software update returns error code 0x87D00668.

    I tired below mentioned steps which remove these patches from software center but after some days they all started appearing again.

    1. Stop Windows Update service.
    2. Rename C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
    3. Rename C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy\Machine\registry.pol
    4. Restart Windows Update service.

    No Go....

    We've this problem only in single machine and this machine is one among the Pilot users, because of these failed status of the patches on software center, Software Update - Compliance Report states that Pilot patching is not complaint... Though all the patches under control panel >> windows update >> view update history shows them as installation status Successful.

  • So what happens when you apply the SU manually to this computer? Does it apply correctly? Does it say it is already installed? Does it give an error?

    We took one SU from above mentioned list, download it, it got installed without giving any error / warning message. Which means it does apply correctly.

    Then we refreshed Software Center, SU still appeared with status "Failed". We clicked on "Retry" button, but again status come as "Failed" after some time.

    At every moment whenever we tried to run, above listed, SU from Software Center it has high memory Utilization (SCClient.exe *32) which then put machine on deadlock.
