Missing Operating system when installing Hyper-V 2012 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    I have installed Hyper-V 2012 on Windows 7.

During the installation it has restarted at some point and is not able to load the OS anymore.

I see a black screen with the message "Missing operating system".

In the boot menu there are two options:

Internal HDD  - returns "Missing operating system" when selected

Onboard NIC -returns "Selected boot device failed. Press any key to reboot the system."  Pressing a key ends in the "Missing operating system"  message.

    Machine is Dell Latitude E7240

    Windows 7 x64

The operating system is installed on C drive and I have chosen in the setup wizard of Hyper-V 2012 the D drive - considering not to interfere with the OS. Now I am wondering if this was a bad idea.

Please help me to boot the Windows7 OS again.

I found this error on the  web, but nothing which could solve the problem.

    Thank you!

  • boot with your win7 DVD to perform an advanced repair of your BCD or hit F8 during boot to go into recovery to see if it can be repaired
