Project 2016: Cannot Move Tasks, Funny/Buggy Behavior RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I seem to have run into a funky state with my Project 2016 Professional.  I can no longer move tasks (I have checked in File -> Options -> Advanced -> Allow Cell Drag and Drop  -- it is checked) as I usually have.  The Four-pronged "move" icon only shows itself when I edge over to the very edge between the row header and the information cell (my first cell).

When I attempt to move it, the entire row gets moved to another row completely below it, as in around or more than 50 rows down.

This seems like buggy/bad behavior and I am wondering if this is a known issue?

Here is a video showing this behavior:

    Thank you for any insight,

    Michael

  • Thank you John... totally unacceptable that something like this would get through testing.  That's exactly what regression testing is all about! :P

  • Michael,

You're welcome and thanks for the feedback. If it's any consolation, a few years back I resisted installing updates because I was concerned about unforeseen glitches. I waited until the "dust cleared". However, my tone has changed and despite the occasional misstep in an update, I now feel it is well worth the risk to keep everything up to date. If I do experience a problem, I either don't use that functionality or come up with a workaround.

  • Yeah... the problem is that updates are taking a couple months now to come out.  This is better than the annual cadence that we used to have, but still. :)  Besides... how does something like this regress?  Pretty inexcusable if you ask me.

In any case, I got an update today and this problem still persists.  I am not impressed. :P

  • Never mind!  I had repaired my Office 365 to fix another problem I am experiencing, but apparently the "online" repair didn't get the latest version!  I did an "Update Now" in the Office Updates -> Update Options and it found the version from today and this problem is now fixed!  Woohoo!  But I am now wrestling with another problem here:
