Howmany no of sip licenses required for the SIP trunk from the Mitel to Exchange? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We want to deploy Exchange 2010 UM to filter incoming calls to the main telephone number.  We have Mitel 3300 PBX in place.

    Here is the call flow:

Incoming Calls ---> Main number (Mitel 3300 PBX) ----> Reroute ---> through Direct sip ---> Exchange UM --->  Auto attendant ---> Mitel 3300 --> Hunt groups.

    Questions:

    1. How many no of sip licenses required for the SIP trunk from the Mitel to Exchange?
    2. After the initial call is established between the Mitel system and the Exchange AA, does Exchange release the call once it’s passed back to the Mitel by a caller choosing an AA option ? (Thereby clearing the trunk for that call)

                               (or)

    3. Does an Exchange process retain control of the call for the entire call duration even after it’s transferred back to the Mitel 3300?

The reason this is important is that, based on their inbound call volumes, we will require a maximum of 10 Mitel SIP session licenses to meet our needs. If Exchange UM retains any element of call control, that number of Mitel SIP licenses may need to be doubled.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    MUCH THANKS.

  • Thank you for your response.

Adding clarity to my previous query.

    Here is the call flow:

Incoming Calls ---> Main number (Mitel 3300 PBX) ----> Reroute ---> through Direct sip ---> Exchange UM --->  Auto attendant ---> Mitel 3300 --> Hunt groups.

We know that when the call gets rerouted from Exchange 2010 UM Auto attendant To Mitel 330, the signaling will happen through Exchange 2010 UM server.

    Question:

    1. Who initiate the Media flow in this scenario? (Exchange 2010 UM server of Mitel 3300 PBX)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    MUCH THANKS.

  • Exchange 2010 UM might be using direct SIP to connect to  Mitel 3300 PBX .UM should be using Mitel as the gateway to connect to PSTN.
Probably you can use wire shark and see the media flow to get better understanding.
