Error Activating SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure - One or more field types are not installed properly. Go to the list settings page to delete these fields RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am getting the following error message when I try to activate the SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure feature: "Error Activating SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure - One or more field types are not installed properly". I am activating this feature on a team site.

    I saw some posts which suggested deleting the Relationships List (http://site_url/Relationships%20List/allitems.aspx). This may work for a publishing site but toes not work for a team site.  I am not able to open the Relationships list on a team site. I dont know if a team site contains relationships list. Does anyone know the solution?

  • I still do not know what was causing this error. I was able to activate this feature using Powershell.

    Enable-SPFeature -Identity F6924D36-2FA8-4f0b-B16D-06B7250180FA -Url http://{siteurl}

    or

    Enable-SPFeature -Id "PublishingSite"-Url http://{siteurl}

  • Hi shankze,

    According to your description, you got an error when you tried to activate the SharePoint Publishing Infrastructure feature.

    Deleting the Relationships List is a way to resolve this issue. And a team site (no publishing)also contains the Relationships List. About the URL http://site_url/Relationships%20List/allitems.aspx that you mentioned, the site_url must be a URL of a root site. For example, my team site URL is http://sp:33903/d/er/ , and when I  type http://sp:33903/d/er/Relationships%20List/allitems.aspx  in browser and type Enter, then I can access the list and delete it from List Settings.

    When  you re-activate the SharePoint Publishing Infrastructure feature, the Relationships List will be re-created.

    I  hope this helps.

    Thanks,

  • Thanks for the info. I am trying this on a root site.

    On a publishing site I am able to open the Relationships list by appending /Relationships%20List/allitems.aspx to the URL but on a teamsite with publishing not enabled, I am still not able to open the relationsips page. I am getting 404 Not Found error.

  • I checked the site for all lists using powershell. I did not find a Relationsips list. As this feature was never activated on this site, the Relationships list does not exist.

  • I checked ULS logs. I found this message -

    The element of type 'Module' for feature 'EnterpriseWikiLayouts' (id: a942a218-fa43-4d11-9d85-c01e3e3a37cb) threw an exception during activation: One or more field types are not installed properly. Go to the list settings page to delete these fields

  • I am seeing this error on a brand new Team Site Site Collection and, as you stated, there is NO relationships list because publishing has never been activated and won't activate currently.  We are troubleshooting this issue, but have no idea of the root cause.
