High Word 2003 CPU usage when its closed RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently put Office 2003 on my Windows 7 computer and am having some issues with Word.  If I open a couple of files, and subsequently close them, and then close Word completely, Winword.exe * 32 still appears to be eating up 50% of my CPU...even though I've closed it down completely through the regular channels.  The only way I can shut it off and get it to stop eating up so much CPU is to close it down through the Task Manager.  Any thoughts?

  • Hi,

You may try to repair the installation of Office 2003, if the issue persists, you may start the computer in Clean Boot to determine whether the 3rd party application cause this.

Please follow the article in the link below.

Also, to use Process Monitor to monitor the winword32.exe process can exactly position the cause of your issue and know what kind of dll files invoked in this process.

    Download Process Monitor at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.
