IE 11 freezes and closes immediately

    Question

  • In our client we are facing the below issue in only 4 machines.

    When we open Internet Explorer 11 in the machines, it freezes for some time and then closes automatically. No error is getting recorded in the even viewer. Tries to launch the IE by disabling the add ons and by enabling the use software rendering instead of GPU rendering. Disabled the script also but no use. When i tried to uninstall IE 11 and use the old version of IE it works fine.

    Kindly suggest

  • Hi,

    At first, I’m glad to hear that you could use old version’s IE now.

    According to the content of your post, current condition seemed weird. As you said, we can’t view any record in the event viewer, so it indicated that your IE 11 closed normally rather than crashed.

    Therefore, please try install IE 11 again to see the result, get it from the official website below.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/internet-explorer.aspx

    Besides, to capture the issue, we can also try to capture the dump file for app crash:

    First enable app crash dump collection by copying following words into notepad, saving it as dump.reg and importing it:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\localdumps\iexplore.EXE]

    "DumpFolder"=hex(2):63,00,3a,00,5c,00,63,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,64,00,75,\

      00,6d,00,70,00,73,00,00,00

    "DumpCount"=dword:00000010

    "DumpType"=dword:00000001

    "CustomDumpFlags"=dword:00000000

    Then, open IE11 to report the issue. If crash issue appeared, please find the crashdump file under c:\.

    There is a blog introduces How to analyze app crash dump file, please refer to it for some prompt.

    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2007/05/29/basic-debugging-of-an-application-crash.aspx

    Then, please double check the IE events under Application or Internet explorer branch to confirm if there is any events.

    Last but not least, If all methods can’t find the information about IE closes automatically, I suggest to use process monitor to capture which process close the IE. We could get this useful tool from here.

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/processmonitor.aspx

    Hope my suggestion could be helpful.
