Windows 7 Shared Database Domain vs Workgroup RRS feed

  • Question

  • What specific settings inside of Windows 7 are turned on/off when adding/removing a PC from the domain?

I'm attempting to troubleshoot a performance issue with a piece of software called "Consignment Success" in which the only way to run this software in a network environment, allowing multiple computers to access the same database is to share the installation folder on the first machine and accessing the shared folder on the second machine, running the application from the shared folder over the network.

We noticed during the testing that when both machines were on the domain that the application ran much faster than when we took them off the domain.

We're testing this software configuration for a client who had 4 PC's in a Workgroup configuration and doesn't have a sever.

What specific settings inside of Windows 7 are turned on/off when adding/removing a PC from the domain that would cause the performance of a database accessed over a shared folder to decrease significantly?

    Thanks.
