How do I install MIM 2016 Portal for a stand by server? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Are there any instructions how to install MIM 2016 on a server which is reserved as a stand-by in case the primary Portal server fails.

We have successfully built and configured our primary MIM 2016 Portal and Sync servers, now we need to figure out somehow what is needed to be done for the stand-by servers. Primarily I/we would like to know what differences there are between the two types of install.

  • All you have to do is install it pointing to the existing database "FIMService" during install.

    - For the portal server, there is nothing different. You can keep it online or offline, as you wish.

    - Sync Server, same install.  Has to be turned off or FIMSynchronizationService windows service has to be turned off. If you need to bring it online, you need to enable the encryption key (there is an encryption key that gets created during installation)

  • Thankyou...

I have since discovered that the SQL system holding the Failover Databases is a stand alone MSSQL server mirrored by Log shipping from Primary Database server.

I understand that this should not affect the install of MIM 2016.

BUT, what bothers me is how Sharepoint 2013 Sp1 and the PRE-Requisite software is installed in this case. Should the Sharepoint install on the Secondary use the same database name as Primary or should it use a different name.

  • You could go either way, but I would use the Express Setup for SP that installs a standalone instance
