  • Hi,

I am not moving it to another domain; nothing will change except for the hardware.

So, basically, we are replicating it to another hardware.

  • Hi Shayaan

You cannot directly migrate a SP web app to another server. Here's are broad level of steps you need to do:

    1. Install SP 2007 on the new server along with pre-requisites. Make sure you are using same version as on the existing server.

    2. Add the server to the SP farm for the old server.

    3. Go to central administration -> Operations -> Services on server and select new server. Once its selected, start service named "windows sharepoint services web application". this will replicate IIS configuration on the new server.

    4. Add new server to the front end servers farm (if you have any).

    5. Remove old server from SP farm.

    Hope this helps.

  • Not sure what you are trying to achieve, when you say move one web app to another server?

You can move an entire web application in SharePoint to another SharePoint farm provided both farms are in same patch level.

If you just want to upgrade your hardware/Windows OS version the you can always add a new Windows server with latest version as an app or front end server to existing farm and remove the existing server with old Windows OS version.
