Microsoft Word (2010): How can you prevent users from deleting section headings? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

In Microsoft Word 2010, what are the available approaches I can use to prevent users from deleting section headings?

    Can VBA help in this?

    TIA

  • You can use Word's 'No changes (Read only)' editing restrictions for this. Simply mark the body of the document as an exception. Unless you mark the header as an exception too, users will be unable to edit it. In a multi-Section document, with different Section headers, you'll need to avoid making the section breaks exceptions (or at least remove the exception status for them); otherwise, users will be able to delete them, which will also delete the associated headings.

  • Thanks.

Any other ways? Or that's the one way?

  • You could do something similar via Forms protection, but that's much less flexible and can't be used to protect Section breaks as such.
