Project 2010 Error - The File "myfile.mpp" cannot be opened. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I beleive this issue resides in the actual Projet file, but I cannot figure out how to resolve this problem:

When trying to save a file to a network share (this problem does not occur when saving locally) using Project 2010 Standard, we are receiving the following message:

Project 2010 Error - The File "myfile.mpp" cannot be opened.

    - Check that the file name and path are correct.

    - Check that the file format is recognized by Project.

Project files saved in a version ealier than Microsoft Project 98 can't be opened.

If your file is from an earlier version, open it in that version, click Save as (File Menu), and save in MPX format. Open the MPX file in the current version of Project.  When you use this method project data is import, but formatting is lost.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Nater,

A few questions. Do you have SP1 installed? Was the file created in Project 2010 or was it created in a previous version? Can you save other files (e.g. Excel or Word) to the network share?

Also, did you try saving as XML and then re-opening? That will often clear file corruption if it exists.

You might try creating a new user profile and then saving.
