Disallow upload of renamed files & files having special characters in their name RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi. Would want to know if the Forefront Protection for Sharepoint Console will be able to filter files falling in this criteria:

    • Uploading a renamed file. Say our application only accepts csv files only. Someone can get hold of a mp3 file (file ending with extension *.mp3) rename it to be a csv file (rename the entire extension). and upload it to the server. Would forefront be able to detect and disallow this?
    • Uploading files with special characters: We are looking to restrict file names that have characters like '%' or '^' in them. Any windows server platform currently allows these characters to be a part of the file name, but we would however need to restrict them.

  • Hi,

    Thank you for the post.

“Would forefront be able to detect and disallow this? ” – yes, you can filter files by file type which prevents users from bypassing the filter by changing the extension or name of a file: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd639455

“We are looking to restrict file names that have characters like '%' or '^' in them” – as far as I know, these are invalid characters for file names.
