Windows XP SP3 Ctrl alt del screen issue. RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are experiencing users on workstations running Windows XP SP3 not getting a logon screen.  The press Ctrl-Alt-Del and our standard Logon message appears, when they press enter or OK they are brought back to the Ctrl-Alt-Del screen.

Not all users experience this.  No particular hardware, subnet, image build, Update level.  Event log only indicates issue communicating with DC to get time, but that resolves itself quickly.

This is simular to the Windows 7 issue with KB977074, however the XP user is not presented with a log on screen.

Rebooting the workstation will sometimes resolve the issue however not the case on all workstations.

  • Hi

It seems that there may be a corruption on the XP system's winlogon.

    You can try this:

    (1) Re-copy the winlogon file from another XP machine (must be identical)

    (2) Re-install XP in repair mode.
