ClientIDManagerStartup.log shows Failed to get registration state. Error: 0x8009000b RRS feed

  • Question

  • we have about 1600 workstations in the environment. At some in time there was an update of some sort that was deployed that screwed things and now 200 odd PCs are showing as having not having a client installed in the console and showing the below in the ClientIDManagerStartup.log file:

Our normal fix is to delete the SMS certs and re-register the client. Without having to visit every machine or wait until the machine is on-line and use the client actions tool, we want to automate a fix that can read the log file, look for the error message and delete the certificates and re-register the client.

My question is, is ClientIDManagerStartup.log the right log file to be looking at? Or is there something else on the client i should be checking for to workout if the certificate needs to be deleted? The ClientIDManagerStartup.log file on working vs non-working PCs seemed to show different messages.

Answers

  • Dear Sir,

Yes, ClientIDManagerStartup.log is the right file to diagnose issues of client registration.

Creates and maintains the client GUID and identifies tasks performed during client registration and assignment.

    Best regards

    Frank

  • What CcmExec.log, ClientLocation.log and LocationServices.log  saying?

share above logs here. Is the MP status fine in mpcontrol log?

Test following URL in client system to check MP

MP LIST TEST URL ==> http://MP-server-name/sms_mp/.sms_aut?MPcert
MP CERT TEST URL ==> http://MP-server-name/sms_mp/.sms_aut?MPlist

This is pretty much a copy and paste of the part of the log as it stands with any corporate info removed (i hope). Would be great if there was something on the server side i could do rather than targeting 250 odd PCs. By the way, the update caused these issues is unrelated to SCCM; they use a different OS deployment method which caused the problem:

And how would you fix a client issue on unmanaged clients from the server?

You can certainly automate this. Using PowerShell and Remoting, you can easily parse the log file on systems, find ones with the error, delete the certs, and then restart the agent.

I know. That was the reason for my post. I mainly wanted to know if the ClientIDManagerStartup.log was the right file to be looking at on PCs to determine if they need the fix applied. If someone can confirm this that would be appreciated.

  • Dear Sir,

Yes, ClientIDManagerStartup.log is the right file to diagnose issues of client registration.

Creates and maintains the client GUID and identifies tasks performed during client registration and assignment.

    Best regards

    Frank
