  • Question

  • Everytime I start my Windows 7 Pro laptop it hangs for a short while with the message "setup is updating registry settings". How can I stop this from happening?

  • Also, try updating the BIOS, devices drivers to the latest version to check the result.

If the issue persists, could you please let us know when did the issue first occur? Did it occur after installing certain software or changing some hardware?

How was Windows 7 installed? A clean installation or it was preinstalled by the laptop manufacturer?

  • Hi,

Do check the programmes started up with windows.
    Autoruns - a free programme.

I'd suggest to perform a clean boot. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Another item responsible for erratic starting up may be your antivirus.

Try to read the logs in your eventmanager to find out what's going on.
Right now you do not supply a lot of data for us to work with.

    Cheers
