reinstalling vista RRS feed

  • Question

I just finished building my new pc,  which included 3 new sata drives and the old ide drive that contained my os. Once i got the new build up and running I had to call microsoft to activate vista, retail version. (not sure why?) I now need to move the data from the old ide drive to one of the new sata drives since the old ide drive is about 98% full. Will I have activation issues after the migration, and what would be the best method to perform this migration. What i had planned to do was to copy the old ide drive, to one of the sata drives, then reinstall the os on the new drive. Is this feasible or should i do something else.

  • Hi,

Since you've changed your hardware "Hard drives", Windows Vista would consider you've moved to a new computer, so you will be asked to re-activate Windows Vista again.

You can move the entire Windows Vista drive to your new SATA drive with serveral software making mirror images like Norton Ghost and many other software doing that purpose.

    Good luck
