Force Computer Description in the deployment wizard RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello!

Currently I have modified DeployWiz_ComputerName.xml with the added code below. And added the two scripts ZTISetComputerDescriptionInAD.wsf and ZTISetComputerDescriptionLocally.wsf in the TS. With this, I get a field right below the Computername in the deployment Wizard where I can input Computer Description.

I want to make this forced though. So if it is empty you can't click Next and continue the deployment wizard. But I don't know how. Any tips?

    <table style="width: 100%;"> <tr> <td style="width:1px;"> <img src="DeployWiz_Computer.png"> </td> <td style="width: 160px;"><span class=Larger>Computer <u class=larger>d</u>escription:</span></td> <td align="left"> <input type=text id="Description" name=ComputerDescription size=40 language=vbscript onpropertychange=ValidateComputerName AccessKey=d /> </td> </tr> </table

  • You need to add a new / modify existing validation script. The easiest way to gain a deeper understanding of how MDT UI operates is to get MDT Wizard Studio and open DeployWiz_Definition_ENU.xml.

Navigate to ComputerName and examine entries associated with the pane. You will notice a custom script, initialization calls as well as validation calls. In the simplest of terms, the Custom Script contains all functions which are then used to initialize and validate the pane.

Here is a detailed write up on how to add initialization/validation to a custom pane which is also applicable in your case: https://itmicah.wordpress.com/2014/01/25/create-a-custom-deployment-wizard-pane-for-updates-mdt/
