BG Info and roaming profile RRS feed

  • Question

  • I deployed BGInfo to a set of servers in my organisation and it works fine. But when i login to a server in the same domain, where BGInfo is not configured, it displays the last displayed server's info here. The profile with which i logged in is a roaming profile, that is how it is displaying old server info. How do i get rid of this?

I cannot use GPO to delete the user profile upon logoff, as it affects any user saved files and information.

How do i solve this? Is there a way to delete the bginfo.bmp files from user profiles once they logoff?

  • When you use BGINFO it creates a file and then set some registry keys.. Explorer then, save a copy  of that image in the roaming profile..

    12:47:06,5707582 Bginfo64.exe 9012 10712 WriteFile C:\Users\pippo\AppData\Local\Temp\BGInfo.bmp SUCCESS Offset: 14, Length: 40

    12:47:06,5817230 Bginfo64.exe 9012 10712 RegSetValue HKU\S-1-5-21-697359679-39553803-2418864162-448711\Control Panel\Desktop\Wallpaper SUCCESS Type: REG_SZ, Length: 96, Data: C:\Users\pippo\AppData\Local\Temp\BGInfo.bmp

    12:47:06,6175032 Explorer.EXE 10248 1788 RegSetValue HKU\S-1-5-21-697359679-39553803-2418864162-448711\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Wallpapers\BackgroundHistoryPath0 SUCCESS Type: REG_SZ, Length: 96, Data: C:\Users\pippo\AppData\Local\Temp\BGInfo.bmp

    12:47:11,6965419 Explorer.EXE 10248 5656 WriteFile C:\Users\pippo\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\CachedFiles\CachedImage_1600_1200_POS1.jpg SUCCESS Offset: 172.032, Length: 3.491

You should clean on exit this folder: C:\Users\pippo\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\CachedFile

So, a scheduled task or a Logoff script, or a night task to be executed on the server where the profile resides to delete all the Roaming files.. that way you no longer will have the wrong bitmap.
