Migrate LcsLogs from lync 2010 to Skype4b 2015 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Has anyone done this? My initial google searches have not yielded a whole bunch of useful info.

Any ideas or a general "point in the right direction" would be much appreciated.

Right now I have a Lync 2010 server with all roles co-located. Including an install of sql to support the LcsLogs archiving DB.

I also have a new Skype4B server and a separate sql 08 R2 server that is running the archiving DB.

We are using another application to read the log files and present
reports to HR, so it would be advantageous to have all logs in one
    place.

    thoughts?

  • OK, so you have LcsLog on 2010 FE and also another LcsLog on SQL 2008 R2 dedicated?

if you have associated the Sfb FE with the one on SQL 2k8 then that is what sfb homed users are going to use for archiving. Moving users won't bring over the lcslog data from 2010 version of lcslog.

You would have to be cautious with this. But..

You could take a backup of 2010 lcslog detach it from 2010 FE SQL move it to SQL 2008 R2 overwrite the sfb one

then perform install-csdatabase command against the archiving SQL 2008 R2 one to update the DB schema to Sfb

Theory that should work. But take backups of both to be sure before trying anything.

    thanks

  • Hi,

Is Lync 2010 in the phase of migration ? SFB server, is that in the same Organization?. The best  method  would be to migrate the users to SFB so that to have  all the data in one place, is that feasible.

  • Lync 2010 is the current production server.

SfB2015 is up and in pilot 1 of testing.

I am able to migrate users back and forth between the two environments.

They are both in the same organization.

Are you saying that the LcsLogs should migrate with the user?

    Thank You,

    -Jeremy

  • Hi

LcsLogs wont move with the user to Skype for Business, you would move the user, but the archiving will still be on 2010, if SQL store associated to the SfB Pool.

What you should do after moving all users to sfb is update the LcsLog dbs to sfb version and then carry on. But only after 2010 is lying there dormant of users.

    thanks

  • I am not sure I follow.

A little more detail on our environment.

Lync2010 was setup as a proof of concept that got pushed into production. To support the archiving, sql server was installed on that server, thus making it a single server solution for everything.

I have since setup a new SfB2015 standard server and put the archiving DB on our production SQL2008R2 server.

So, the two DBs are in different locations.

To get the data from the old Lync2010 server to the new SQL2008R2 location, is that possible?
