Cannont create a new folder RRS feed

  • Question

  • I cannot create a new folder. I have tried to create new folder is various ways: 1. Right clicking and go New -> Folder (except the Folder option is not there) 2. Within explorer clicking Organise -> New Folder (this option does exist but does nothing).

    The only way I have managed to create new folders is by using the good old fashioned command prompt but as you can imagine this is not the most practical solution. Can someone please help me as I am getting rather annoyed.

  • I have the very same problem.  Every time I attempt to add or rename any folder anywhere, Windows Explorer locks up and I have to either log off or reboot to recover and close the window.  I have researched this everywhere but find no answers.

    I upgraded from XPPro to Vista Business on a 9 month old "Visa Ready" laptop. Any help anyone can afford would be greatly appreciated

  • Do you have the following in your registry:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Folder\ShellNew]
    "Directory"=""
    "IconPath"=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,00,\
      74,00,25,00,5c,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,73,\
      00,68,00,65,00,6c,00,6c,00,33,00,32,00,2e,00,64,00,6c,00,6c,00,2c,00,33,00,\
      00,00
    "ItemName"="@shell32.dll,-30396"
    "MenuText"="@shell32.dll,-30317"
    "NonLFNFileSpec"="@shell32.dll,-30319"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Folder\ShellNew\Config]
    "AllDrives"=""
    "IsFolder"=""

  • Launch-n-Go program has a known issue, but it is fixable -

    When you right-click on the Desktop and click New, the Folder entry may be missing from the sub-menu. Although the cause for this issue is unknown, the resolution is simple. Download the Folder association fix (folderfix_vista.zip) from the attachment. Unzip the fix and extract the .REG file to the Desktop. Right-click the .REG file and choose Merge.

    Note: You need to be an administrator to apply this fix.
