    Question

  • is there a GPO for locking down Start button (left and right click) I need it for Terminal Server (RDSH) users.

Left click: Not to my knowledge. But you can simply make it empty :)
http://gpsearch.azurewebsites.net/#4642 and the various other "Remove
    xyz" settings.

  • Disabling Left click is important.

The real goal is to restrict access to Start Screen. Only Desktop mode should be available.

It is Server 2012/W8.1 reality. We are using Windows 7 as client OS, don't want to mess up with a Start Screen when on Remote session.

Any idea... Probably Tiles could be empty. But then poor user may not find a way to return to his Desktop.

  • Hi pob579,

You could try to apply “Prevent changes to taskbar and Start Menu Settings” under below mention path.

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar.

If you enable this policy setting, the user will be prevented from opening the taskbar properties dialog box.

    Best Regards,

    Mary Dong

Does not help on 2012/W8 and above... At the moment, I'm unaware of a
method to block access to the start screen.

  • So nothing could be done for both: Left and Right Clicks. Just tested.

Where are settings for all the items of Right Click....

    I disabled Control panel...

So need to do it one by one for Right Click Menu items if disabling start button or right click is not possible.

With the left click other story ... working on customizing Start Screen...
