Window 10: Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing or corrupt. Status:Oxc000014C RRS feed

  • Question

  • Windows will not boot on my Dell Desktop system. I get the following error:

Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing or corrupt. Status:Oxc000014C

I stupidly did not have a recovery disk for this system so I created a recovery disk on another Windows 10 system. I tried the repair feature but it wasn't able to repair my registry. I don't have any backup images (again, stupid!). What can I do to repair my system?

    Some history:

I recently switched over to a new boot disk (an SSD) which has been booting just fine. Today I got a message from my Norton software that I needed to reboot to install a security patch. Perhaps this was a virus I picked up, because that was the last thing I did.

I am happy to run commands on the DOS prompt (from recovery disk) if there is something I can do.

thanks in advance for any help you can provide,

    Kozbo (Kevin)
