How can I uninstall older software Shared Computer Toolkit? Problem :/ RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello!

I have problem! I must uninstall program: "Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit" because SP3 has requirement to remove first this app. I know that it's older version, but  actually I don't find forum about this software and I don't use it and I don't need it.

I read on website FAQ howto "Unistall Shared Computer Toolkit" link:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/sharedaccess/install/uninstallsct.mspx

and I did every step. When I run in Step 1 "Windows Disk Protection" I have error "This computer does not currently support Windows Disk Protection! To resolve this error, see the Toolkit Handbook. Do you want to start the Disk Management tool to configure the disk?

I understand that I never used it and this step can be skipped.

    I'm going to Step2:
Remove user accounts created by the Shared Computer Toolkit

I don't have these users, I deleted it via this tool.

    I'm going to Step3:
    Uninstall Shared Computer Toolkit

I tried run this "Uninstall the Shared Computer Toolkit" but I've got error (lang Polish):

"Ta akcja jest prawidłowa tylko dla produktów, które są zainstalowane"

    Translation into english (not good):
"This action is correct only for products, when there are installed."

And this has only button "OK". I can't uninstall this tool. I can't find setup installation for older software. I thought that I can find it and reinstall it and remove again. I downloaded SteadyState (newer version), when I start setup it has requirement to remove old soft, but it can't remove because there is a error message.

    Please help me.

In Add/Remove software version Shared Toolkit is: 1.1
System XP Prof + all updates.

    Best regards.

  • Hi,

I must admit that this solution not fixed it.

When I run "Windows Installer Cleanup" it doesn't have this item on list. I understand that I tried uninstall it long time ago and it don't uninstall all files properly.

OK, I did it manually and everything works now. I deleted all files succesfully and installed SP3.

    Below there are steps:

    1) Delete services. I found that there are running service:
    SCTThresholdMonitor
    WDPOperations

Stop it and delete it cmd.exe:

    sc delete SCTThresholdMonitor
    sc delete WDPOperations

    or remove in registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SCTThresholdMon
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WDPOperations

    next reboot.

    2) Delete this dir:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit

If you can't delete ntldr.original please try remove it in other system (linux + ntfs-3g).

    3) Delete some informations in regedit:

    Delete this dir:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Computer Toolkit
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SharedComputerToolkitUninstall
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit

next find all information where exist word: "{BC69E66C-47DE-412E-87DF-D1B8055A9AF7}"

    it found:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Folders\

    with:
    C:\WINDOWS\Installer\{BC69E66C-47DE-412E-87DF-D1B8055A9AF7}\

    and delete it.

    And that's all.

  • Minor correction to the last post.  To delete the SCTThresholdMonitor service, you may need to type this at the command prompt:

    sc delete SCTThresholdMon

The rest is accurate.  I'm restarting my computer now to see if the manual uninstall resolved my issue.  Assume if I don't post another reply that this resolved my issue.  Thanks much!
