Automatically adding new virtual machines for protection? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all,

I'm a newbie when it comes to DPM (DPM 2012 r2).

I know there is a script for populating a protection Group with unprotected servers (AddNewStandAloneVM.ps1)

Is scheduling this script the only way to populate a protection Group with new servers thats not protected?

    Regards

    Roger

  • There is no built-in function for that in DPM, so, yes, you have to script it in some way and run the script, for example as scheduled task or as a part of orchestrator runbook.

  • Yes it is.

There is no autoprotection functionality in DPM for Hyper-V VMs like there is for SQL Databases on an instance.

There is also a second script called AddNewClusteredVM.ps1 to add VMs from a cluster instead of a standalone Hyper-v server.

Using both scripts is documented in the manual:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/de-de/library/ff634200.aspx

Maybe the DPM Product Group could add Autoprotection for Hyper-V VMs to the wishlist for future versions of DPM ?
