Answers

  • it's not the only way it's the recommended way (for all hardware)

as regards your error, look at the smsts.log file on the machine you are trying to capture and that will reveal the reason for the failure.

  • here's a guide for Deploying Windows 8.1 X64 to the Surface Pro 3, it uses the driver package provided by Microsoft, step by step, hopefully that should help.

  • Hi,

Why do you want to capture the image from an Surface Pro 3? Why not capture it on a virtual machine and then deploy the image together with the driverrs for the Surface Pro 3?.

Surface pro is a UEFI device and I think that is what is stopping you from capturing the image.

    Regards,
    Jörgen

  • I second Jörgen's statement. Don't use physical hardware for creating the refernence image. Use VMs instead.

  • Thanks.   I have a basic build out of a Surface Pro 1 running Windows 8.1.  Our setup is a little different. It's failing at the sysprep part.  Capturing it virtually and push the drivers is the only way?
