Visual Studio Professional RRS feed

  • I need to figure out what I need to produce executable files for Windows and Linux.  The online Visual Studio Professional 2017 descriptions id fairly terse: "Save dev time and effort in any language, on any platform".  Does "platform" refer to operating system/CPU ?  Here's my ideal situation: I'll have one copy of Visual Studio running on Windows 7.  Can I ask it to generate an executable for a Linux OS running on an Intel Xeon CPU ?  If that doesn't work, can I do it with two copies of Visual Studio, one running on Windows and the other on Linux ? Do the two copies each require a separate license ? BTW, my code is all standard C++ except for forced requirements like __declspec definitions and possibly a small number of OS function calls. Do I need a specific version of Visual Studio ?
