25+ clients, count 5 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Im trying to activate my 25+ clients on the KMS, but when I do "slmgr -dlv", it shows the count as 5. Is there any reason why this would be the case? I deployed Vista Enterprise using the same image.

    Thanks in advance

  • Hello Dharmesh,

Thank you for your post.  First, on the KMSHOST look for Event ID 12293 to make sure the KMSHOST record is published to the DNS SRV records appropriately to make sure it is not a DNS issue.  If this is okay, go to the KMSCLIENT machines and look for Event ID 12289 and make sure it is trying to access the correct KMSHOST and getting a response.  On the KMSHOST, what is the output of Event ID 12290?

Also, when you created the image did you do a sysprep /generalize?  You can verify the client machines do not have the same CMID by doing a slmgr -dli on them.  If they have the same CMID that could also be an issue.

    Hi,

I have just noticed that the client IDs are the same. Is there a quick fix to this rather than to re-build my images and re-deploy to alomost 30 PCs?

    Thanks

  • Hello Dharmesh,

Thank you for the information, I believe we have located your issue.  Unfortunately if the image was generated and the /generalize option was not used the base image needs to be rebuilt and the operating reinstalled on the clients.

Please see KB929829 at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929829 for further information about this issue and how to avoid it.
