DNS pointers to Specific sites within a web app RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to configure a DNS entry that will take users to a nested web site within a web app. I created a DNS entry Intranet. I configured AAM to allow Intranet to point at the web app. It resolves to the root level of the web app. Is there a way to make it resolve to a site within the web app?

    Example: Intranet = http://SharePoint/pages/default I want it to be: Intranet = http://SharePoint/Sites/Intranet

  • Hi MichaelSword,

SharePoint can only give host headers to web apps, and we can’t add a different host header to only a site within a web app. If you had finished change the SharePoint URL to default site, the host header could also be used to the other sites within the same web app. In other words, if you can access http://SharePoint /pages/default.aspx, and Intranet site is in the same web app with the default site, you can also use http://SharePoint/Sites/Intranet to access the intranet site.

Let me know if I misunderstand you.

  • Emir,

Thanks for your post. I am able to navigate to the desired site in the way you suggest. However, what I need is to be able to make a DNS pointer that will allow a user to enter http://intranet and have it resolve to http://sharepoint/sites/intranet .

    Thanks again for your assistance.

    Michael
