Best practices for Mapping SharePoint 2007 site as a network drive on XP?

Question
-
Hello All,
I have tried a lot to look online but with no success.
Can you please advise me of what are the disadvantages/limitations if users map SharePoint as a network drive on their computer? Are there any specific issues? how is metadata handled?
Any links, tables and guides would be much appreciated.
Environment : SharePoint 2007, XP for clients.
Thank you in advance for your time and help.

Hi,
metadata is not handled in windows explorer or explorer view. If you copy many document into SharePoint by using explorer and have required columns, the documents that you are copying into SharePoint will not be checked in until the he required columns are filled in...

Thanks for the links. I realize the difference between SharePoint and normal file shares. We defenitely are going ahead with SharePoint. However, a particular segment of users have special requirements and would prefer to use mapped drive instead of SharePoint UI (just for couple of initial months).
Thats why I am more interested in what would be drawbacks of mapping a SP as a drive? (It is def. the least desired option. I want to collect facts/analysis to give users heads up on this for clear expectations).
