DPM-ID 30229 and WSB-Event-ID: 517 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am using DPM 2012 and I have a problem with the backup of the system state of a protected server.

The protected server is running Win08R2 and SharePoint 2010. SharePoint Backups are OK.

On the DPM-Server I am getting the event ids DPM-ID 30229 and WSB-Event-ID: 517 with the following codes:

    Internal Errorcode: 0x80990ED0 and WSB-Errorcode: 0x4F0C10

On the protected Server I am getting Event ID 517 with the following description (translated from German)

Error during the ‎backup started 2012‎-‎09‎-‎19T08:45:12.285663300Z . Errorode: "2155348257" (Error reading the following file by Windows-Backup: "<BackupLocation>\WindowsImageBackup\<Computername>\MediaId".). Look for a solution in the details.

How can I find out what causes this problem?

Thanks in advance for your help and suggetions!

  • Hi

Please check anti-virus on the server, perhaps filters or settings are causing a problem.

you can also look at this similar thread, it is for DPM 2007 but might apply to you as well:

  • Hello,

I have uninstalled the anti virus software from the protected server. This did not solve my problem. But I am now getting slightly different error codes:

    WSB-Event ID 517 and error code: 0x37B8550

The message is still the same: Error reading the file "<BackupLocations>\WindowsImageBackup\<Computername>\MediaId".

Any ideas? What is this MediaId?

  • Hi JensFL,

Please check the protected server (PS) and make sure the Windows backup feature is installed and if already installed look for any event messages on the PS for Windows backup that may detail the cause of the failure.  To test SystemState backup outside of DPM, try this command:

    1) Set up a network share on a remote machine \\server\bmrshare

    2) From an administrative command prompt on the PS, type:

    wbadmin.exe start backup -systemstate -backuptarget:\\server\bmrshare

"Do you want to start the backup operation?. - Type Y to continue..

    3) Troubleshoot any Windows backup problems that occur, once this works, DPM should be able to take SystemState backups.

Windows 2008 backup logs are located in the %windir%\logs\WindowsServerBackup folder

  • Hi Stephane,

Thanks for your answer. The backup via command line succeeded. It ran without any errors.

However, the DPM-Backup is still not working. I am still getting the same error message about the "MetaID". Detailed WSB-Error says: "The device is not connected".

    Other ideas?
