Event 20291, A BINDING-ACK message error RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have two DHCP servers in a failover relationship running under Windows Server 2012 R2. I am getting a huge number of the following error messages in the event logs on both servers

A BINDING-ACK message with transaction id: 311 was sent for IP address: 10.121.36.72 with reject reason: (Outdated binding information) to partner server: dc3.vcs.local for failover relationship: DC1-DC3.

This KB article details the exact problem, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2955135. This note is in the KB:

Note Before you install this update, you have to first remove the failover relationship, install the update to both DHCP nodes and restart them, and then reestablish the failover relationship.

The problem is by the time the failover relationship was established, KB3000850 was already installed. This is what I tried

    1. Delete the DHCP failover relationship between the two servers
    2. Uninstall KB3000850 on both servers, restart
    3. Reinstall KB3000850 on both servers, restart
    4. Re-establish the DHCP failover relationship

Still getting the same errors. Any idea on how to solve this?

    • Reinstall KB3000850 on both servers, restart
    • Re-establish the DHCP failover relationship

    Note:

Each time the reboot is needed.

To apply this update, you must first install update 2919355 on Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2.
