project 2007 project guide RRS feed

  • Question

  • I own ms project 2007 and the project guide is not working?

"Project is unable to open the Project Guide.

The following dependent features are also disableled:

            blah, blah, blah,

the Srchui.dll and Jscript files may not be registered correctly."

    Any ideas??

  • See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891170 for information on registering those two files.  I would also ensure you have the latest service pack (SP-3) installed.  Are you attempting to use a custom project guide?

  • No to the custom project guide question.  I am going to view and then "turn on project guide".  When I type in the command on line 2 ( regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\jscript.dll )  the error code 0x80004005 pops up.  And when line 1 is done (regsvr32 c:\windows\srchasst\srchui.dll) the following error message pops up

the module "c:\windows\srchasst\srchui.dll" failed to load.  make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files.  The specified module could not be found.

    Did i miss something?

  • If you search for the srchui.dll file is it stored in the c:\Windows\srchasst directory?  What OS are you using?

  • file is located in  c:\windows\system32.  OS is windows 7 home premium.  Did not find C:\windows\srchasst directory.

  • Please go to Tools > Options, Interface tab.  Ensure use default page and default content are selected.

    Better?

  • both defaults were set and still the same error message.  Although the Project version is 2007 the rest of my Office suite is 2010.  Could this be the issue?  And does it matter if windows is 32 bit or 64 bit?  I really appreciate your time and patience.

  • Thanks.  It shouldn't matter although it's possible the installation of Office 2010 has caused some hiccups in Project 2007.  Try a repair through the Control Panel in Win 7.

  • Tried repair and restarted with no effect.

I would not mind reinstalling but I can't find disk or license key.  Is there a way to extract the key then download the program from internet?

  • Before you re-install - what Service pack is installed to Project 2007?  Is this a new problem with Project 2007 or did you ever get the guide to work correctly?
