Set IE homepage via Group Policy

    Question

  • Hi

If i set users IE homepage via GPO, will this delete any of their own saved homepages?  Is there a way to set the homepage via GPO but keep their saved homepages as secondary tabs?

    Cheers

    Yes.

No, GPO simply replaces the existent value, there is now logic to store
or export values. you need to script it, if you want to keep existing
    settings.

    - read and save existing entries Homepage and existing secondaries
    - write new value and add previously read one to secondary homepage

    ----- add-homepage.bat -----
:: read and save existing entries Homepage and existing secondaries
    for /f "tokens=4" %%a in ('reg.exe query
    "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" /v "Start Page"') do
    set savehome=%%a
    for /f "tokens=5" %%b in ('reg.exe query
    "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" /v "Secondary Start
    Pages"') do set savehome2=%%b

    :: set NEW HOMEPAGE
    reg.exe add "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" /v "Start
    Page" /t reg_sz /d "NEWHOMEPAGE" /f

:: add old Homepage to secondary Homepages.
    reg.exe add "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" /v
    "Secondary Start Pages" /t reg_multi_sz /d "%savehome%\0%savehome2%" /f
     ----- add-homepage.bat -----
