Problem presenting PowerPoint in meetings RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!

We've just setup a new Office Online Server and moved our S4B Pool to use this new server. Now we're having the problem that we can't present PowerPoint slides. The error ist just "Error presenting".

I've tried the URL https://<Servername>/hosting/discovery/ and it works fine. I also can't find anything in the Eventlogs, though that do have the LS Data MCU Event ID 41032. Any ideas where else I might have to look?

    Best Regards,

    Gerrit

  • Hi Gerrit,

Do you mean you want to collocate Office Web Apps Server (WAC) and Front end pool in only one server? We don’ t suggest doing like that as it will cause some unexpected issues. You could refer to the following link about the Collocation of server roles.

By the way, if you created a new WAC in a separate server and got this error, please note that the error should be the network issue between your client and WAC.

Since you could connect to the URL https://<Servername>/hosting/discovery/ and it works fine, that means Office Online server could work and be discovered manually.

To verify the connection error, you could try representing the issue, then open event viewer in FE server to see if you could find the event 41033. It is the event ID regarding “Office Web Apps Server (WAC) discovery failed, PowerPoint content is disabled.”

This error would happen if the Office Web Apps Server FQDN is not actually associated to any your Front End Servers. Please open your topology builder to see if your Office Web Apps Server is associated with the Front End Server actually.

If not, please edit the pool properties and under the General section enable the Associate pool with an Office Web Apps Server parameter as below.

Remember to publish your topology when you associate WAC with FE finally. Let me know if it still can’t work, thanks!

  • Hi Leon,

no, I'm not trying to install the Office Online Server on one of the Frontend servers. It's a separate server.

As I already mentioned in my original post I'm not getting a 41033, I'm getting a 41032 just like it should be, but it still isn't working. Which ports are in use between the Office Online Server, S4B and the S4B-Share? Maybe the error can be found there?

    Regards,

    Gerrit

  • Hi Gerrit,

Which ports are in use between the Office Online Server, S4B and the S4B-Share? Maybe the error can be found there?

Port 443.You get the MCU Event ID 41032 ,it does not mean that you have deploy this server normally.

“The error ist just "Error presenting”, Could you give me the screenshot about this error? This error is too general.

“URL https://<Servername>/hosting/discovery/ and it works fine” Did you check this page’s WAC URL ? It must be same with the certificate’s SN and run the “Get-OfficeWebAppsFarm |select InternalURL, ExternalURL”.

Please refer to the following link step by step(SFB server is same with Lync 2013 server ,so you could refer to it).

  • Hi Leon,

    here is the snapshot:

It's in German, but the translation is "Error while presenting." It appears the minute I choose which PPTX I want to present.

I checked the WAC URLs and they are the same as the one I used in the Topology Builder.

Thanks for the Artikel, I'll work through it today and let you know what I found.

    Regards,

    Gerrit

  • Hi Leon,

I'm going through the blog-post you sent me. Thanks again for that!

I tried removing the OOS and reentering it, but I'm getting nowhere. Fiddler isn't showing me that the client is trying to access the OOS, but it's configured correctly in the Topology Builder.

Here's what the Eventlog has to say:

According to this I should be able to present PowerPoints, but it still isn't working...

It looks like the client doen't know the FQDN of the OOS, but S4B has all the information and should be passing it on...

Anymore ideas how I might be able to find the source of this problem?

    Gerrit

  • Hi Gerrit,

Firstly,Please run the following cmd to check CMS status in SFB management shell,if UpToDate is true.

    Get-CsManagementStoreReplicationStatus

If status is false ,please run the Invoke-CsManagementStoreReplication.

And you could open the SFB client log in snooper, check the SIP session like the following screenshot.

  • Hi Leon,

the CMS and LMS are up-to-date. Not quite sure what I'm looking for in the log so I've shared the local logfile here: https://1drv.ms/f/s!ArK2CCQyctfKjMlnnf5AdUUckEm0FQ

Maybe you can see what we're looking for.

  • Hi Gerrit,

Is the Office Online Server in a DMZ or on the LAN?

    Are the following ports open?...

    - Outside to Office Online Server, TCP/443

    - Office Online Server to SfB Front End Pool Server(s), TCP/443

    - Internal SfB user to Office Online Server, TCP/443

    Thanks.

  • Hi!

As I get the XML-data when testing https://<fqdn>/hosting/discovery from the different sources, I would say yes Port TCP/443 is open.

  • Hi Leon,

I just saw that the Office Online Server is using a wildcard certificate. Could that be the source of the problem?

  • Gerrit,

you've got great advice from Steve that you might have overlooked.
    - Office Online Server to SfB Front End Pool Server(s), TCP/443

You keep checking connectivity TO oos.
You need to check connectivity FROM oos to SfB pool servers.
If you have Enterprise Pool, it's HLB internal web services FQDN.

Used to have the same issue a while ago, firewall was blocking exactly this traffic.

Wildcard cert works fine for oos as long as it covers called FQDN. If you don't get any cert error in browser, it's not the cert.
