Accessing old profile without access to OLM RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently had to retire my old Mac laptop—its motherboard failed suddenly and finally. I was able to get a hard drive backup (with TimeMachine), but no longer am able to use the applications on that laptop. Herein lies the problem: I never was able to export an OLM file with all my profile info, with all my calendar and contact data. Is there a way to generate an OLM from the application database files? Or is there another method to access my data without having created an OLM?

Incidentally, I'm a little surprised that MS Outlook doesn't automatically back that kind of data up. Depending on a manual back up to OLM seems like a poorly thought-out backup process—a crash or data breach can happen at any time, and users aren't being taught to "save your OLM every five minutes"... even Word does a better job of automatically reopening files with Crash Protector. Restoration of vital contact data seems like it should be a far higher priority.
