Can't remove Hyper-v server role. RRS feed

  • Hi 

    I can't remove the hyper-v server 2012 role that show error" The request to add or remove feature on the specified server failed. Teomovel of one or more role, role services, or features failed Access is denied. Error: 0x080070005."

    Please see the problem as capture screen.

    Could you please advice how to fix issue?

  • Hi,

    First make sure all virtual machines are stopped, if you have any virtual switches you can try deleting them.

    From your screenshot it looks like you don't have enough permissions? Are you a local administrator on the server?

    You can also try with an elevated PowerShell:

    Remove-WindowsFeature -Name Hyper-V

    Thank you for reply. I confirmed that I logon as local Administrator and try run "Remove-WindowsFeature -Name Hyper-v" with PowerShell run as administrator. The result as screen capture. Could you please give more idea for remove hyper-v role.

  • Did you check the virtual machines and vSwitches?

    Try stopping the Hyper-V services.

  • Hi Leon,

    Yes, I deleted the virtual machines and vSwitches already. 

    Bases on my search from internet knowledge. I try run command "bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype auto" and disable antivirus software, after that I try remove hyper-v role again it's working. I'm not sure it's relate or not.

  • Well do you have any antivirus or anything else installed that may be blocking?

    Is this a Windows Server or Windows client operating system?

    Yes, my server have Symantec antivirus installed with Windows server 2012.

  • Try temporarily uninstalling Symantec, it has been known to cause issues when installing/uninstalling things.
