SOFS How many spaces to create. RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are building a 2 node server 2012 R2 SOFS cluster. This will be used for backend storage for existing Hyper-V cluster. The 3 JBODS on the backend have 16 HDD and 16 SSD.

I am wondering if I would get better performance  to create 1 big space/virtual disk (-space for parallel rebuild on both tiers and write back cache) -this should scream right? VS creating 2 spaces and spreading the ownership across the nodes. I am leaning toward creating 2 spaces.

The SOFS nodes and the HV cluster nodes will each have dual port 10Gb RDMA nics.

I will test either way and post results when time allows. Anyone have any wisdom to share?

    Thanks for your time.
