Com Port Issues RRS feed

  • Question

  • Currently the various Software Packages I run have designated com ports to connect to peripheal devices. The comports are allocated in the higher range (com port 16,17, 18). My peripheal devices only have a range up to (com port 1-6). Is there any way to reallocate these to a lower port on my pc?

  • Hi,

Did you mean you want to change the com port number, right?

    If yes, follow these steps:

    1. Right click Computer, select Manage.

    2. Expand the Device Manger.

    3. Expand the Ports(COM & LPT), right click specific one (not in use).

    4. Select Properties, Port Settings tab.

    5. Then click on Advanced… Once you’re in Advanced Settings for COM* on the bottom,  you can see the COM Port Number: COM* as below:

    6. Click on that to change it to the lowest possible number (between 1-6). Then click OK to close all open windows.
