Update kills firewall/Dashboard

  • One of my PC's has Windows version 1703 build 15063.296....apparently the 'creators update'...certainly has created a problem for me.  The Windows Defender firewall is off and will not turn back on. When I attempt to change the firewall settings to default as suggested, I get an error: 0x8007042c, cannot change settings.  This PC is part of a network with Windows Server 2012 Essentials.  I can access the server folders via the Launchpad or Widows Explorer, but cannot start the Server Dashboard.  Also, Windows Update hangs. Is there a fix for this or do I need to dump Windows Defender and try a 3rd party antivirus/firewall?
