DPM 2012 R2 backup on DAG passive copies RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I would like to know if we can force DPM to always use the passive copy of an Exchange database. Is it configurable or is it workload aware?

    Thanks,

  • Hello!

DPM is database role agnostic and can be configured to protect a server that hosts a collection of active or passive mailbox databases. DPM will provide a node based protection, so it doesn't matter if it's an active or passive copy of the Exchange database.

When protecting more than one (1) copy of an Exchange mailbox database (for example, when protecting members of a DAG), it is recommended to configure one (1) node for full backups and the rest for copy backups.
The copy backups do not truncate log files.

Unfortunately I don't think it's possible to force DPM to always use a passive node.

    Best regards,
    Leon
