Outlook 2016 Setup for Office 365 AND Exchange 2010 Outlook Anywhere RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have setup two profiles on Windows 10 Outlook 2016.

    1. Office 365 (multiple accounts).

    2. Exchange 2010 Outlook Anywhere to corporate network.

The profile to Corporate once opened, I can see under Connection Status that it had a line trying to connect to Office 365 for one of the profile 1's account with session type Cache.  After few minutes, Outlook would popup for password (looks like for corporate account but it is actually asking for the Office 365 account username/password).

How do I stop the profile 2 (Corporate Exchange) to stop connecting to Office 365?  The Profile 2 does not have Office 365 configuration.  There is only one account setup for Exchange 2010 connection.

Answers

  • We have reverted back to Outlook 2013.

There seems to be come kind of bug going on with 2016 working with on-prem 2010 and office 365 in specific situations where we can't replicate.

  • Hi,

We may check if there is something wrong in the credential caches. Please check following steps.

    1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Credential Manager.

2.Under Windows Credentials, locate the set of credentials that has Outlook in the name.

    3. Click the name to expand the set of credentials, and then click Remove from Vault.

    4. Repeat step 3 for any additional sets of credentials that have the word Outlook or your account in the name.

If issue persists, please try creating a new profile in case the profile 2 is corrupted.

Any updates, please feel free to tell me.

    Regards,

    Perry

  • Hi,

Does this issue happen to many users?

When the credential window pop up, can profile 2 work normally if you click cancel?

We can try opening Outlook in safe mode to see if the issue continues. Please exit Outlook, press Win key + R to open the Run command, type outlook.exe /safe and then press Enter. This helps eliminate whether the problem lies on any third party add-ins.

Besides, do you have any public folder or shared mailbox in profile 2?

    Regards,

    Perry

  • This happens to couple remote users we setup Outlook Anywhere connecting to our on-prem Exchange 2010 and they also have several Office 365 accounts..

This is brand new install of Windows and Outlook 2016, there are no add-in so safe mode probably won't change anything - we'll try.

We've never clicked cancel but inserted the Office 365 credentials and the corporate in-house exchange works.  this is very confusing for the user.

  • Hi,

Are there any updates with this issue for now?

We could use the Microsoft Office Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT) to get a detailed report of your installed Office programs. It also highlights known problems that are found when OffCAT scans your computer. For more details, please refer to this link.
