  • Question

  • Hello all,

We are attempting to run MAP from our VMware vCenter Server and we only get results from the vCenter Server itself and not from any of the other virtual machines.

I was told that we require a Domain (Domain Controller/Active Directory),which we do not have, in order to run MAP against our VMware virtual environment (vCenter). Is this true or are we missing steps?

We have followed the steps in the below link with minimal success.

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/14935.map-how-to-inventory-your-vmware-environment.aspx

Additionally, we have a SQL Server in our environment and have also viewed steps on installing MAP there and adding another instance, but have not tried that yet.

    Any guidance would be appreciated!

  • If you don't have an Active Directory, you can't discover computers using Active Directory. You'll need to use some other collection technology such as Windows Networking (if you use Workgroups) or IP addresses/ranges (if you have literally zero network).
