Can someone please explain App-V in a nutshell? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been reading on App-V but as odd as this sounds I have not read what exactly it is, or more specifically, what it is not.

I get the idea of streaming applications.  We do that now with specialized apps via RDP where we launch individual applications on workstations that all run off of the terminal server seemlessly on the desktop.

What does App-V add to that?

It sounds like they are similar technologies, is App-V more enterprise and large scale?

I have a client that we serve 30 desktops with a single app off of a terminal server.  The app is finicky and old, plus people need to access it in office/out of office so its streaming via TS/RDP as a single app.

Is there a point where you hit a spot in users where App-V makes more sense than using RDP/TS?
