  • I am assuming that you have the self service website properly installed and that it is rendering. If not you will want to search the forums for installing the SSP.

OK to use the Self-Service Portal to create VMs you need a number of parts.

    (1) Configured VHD (I install base versions of the OS and sysprep it)
    (2) Configured Template in the Library (this will reference all hardware and also run through the mini setup wizard for you so include your product key and domain to be joined).
    (3) Configured Self Service Policy that references a User or Group (User or Group cannot be a member of VMM Adminstrators and cannot be an administrator on the VMM Server) template must also reference the configured template and have the ability to create new VMs this is configured in the policy.

Once all of this is properly configured you will be able to use the self-service portal to deploy the template that you defined.  The New Virtual Machine button shows up on the Virtual Machines tab directly above your first existing Virtual Machine.

It is also important to note that you will need to define templates for all various configurations.  The UI for the SSP is pretty basic but it does provide the basic functionality needed by users for the most part.  The best thing to do is keep it simple.  Don't try to use this tool as a end-all just create templates for your most common requests and handle all others manually with the MMC.
