Deploying through Add/Remove software fails RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

If I try to install several packages through the add/remove software (logged in as local admin), it starts to download, but the download finnishes quickly and says failed.
So it didn't even correctly download the package. I get this error on every client with all packages.

Deployment for packages which are deployed automatically works fine.

    Any idea?

    Thanks,

    Tom

  • Hi Tom,

Please deleted the QMgr0.dat & QMgr1.dat along with the c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution folder while BITS was stopped.

The Qmgr files are located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader.

After restarting the BITS service, run "wuauclt /detectnow" to check whether the software will be installed.

  • Hi Tom,

Could you please try the following steps:

    1. Stop the Automatic Updates service and BITS service.

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop bits

    2. Delete “%windir%\softwaredistribution” directory.

    3. Start the Automatic Updates service and BITS service. When these two services
have been started, they will auto-create “softwaredistribution” and its subfolder
    at system directory.

    net start wuauserv

    net start bits

    4. Stop the Cryptographic Services

    5. Rename the C:\windows\System32\catroot2 folder

    6. After the “%windir%\softwaredistribution” directory has been generated, please
let the client contact the WSUS server immediately.

    wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow

    7. After 15 minutes, please check the client to confirm whether it detects needed
    updates.

If the problem still exists, please check %windir%\windowsupdate.log
and post the error message in this thread

Might it have anything to do with a proxy server? We are running ISA server (Forefront TMG) and the firewall client on all of the clients.

Is it possible to give me some advice concerning this error?

    Thanks,
