Set Project Managers by Default to have admin access to their project sites RRS feed

  • Hi

    Is it possible that when a PM creates a project that they can get automatically upon first publish admin access to their project site.. (but obviously not other pm's project sites).

    this is the case by default: The person who is creating the site by publishing the project, is owner of the site. If you see somethning different: Who is creating the site in your case?

    The PM wont create the project it will get created from an idea off a workflow. Then PMO goes and assigns the PM. This is normal practice because in opportunity phase you wont know who the PM is. THe issue is that when the PM gets assigned and project is published the PM doesn't have control to admin their project site (unless manually granted) - so frustrating... 

    do you know how to over come this one?

    Is your Project Online set up to use SharePoint Permissions Mode (the default) or Project Permissions Mode?  We recommend you use Project Permissions Mode for the greatest control of security permissions.  If you are using Project Permissions Mode, when the PM is assigned to the project and then the PM opens and publishes the project, the PM will now have admin control over the SharePoint Project Site.  Just a thought.  Hope this helps.

    It is in PS mode yes. When the PM publishes they don't have admin control over project site this is the issue. The PM inherits permissions which are the PWA Project Manager Group permissions.. but when PM goes to site contents all they see is the default registers, ie no access to site settings permissions. It seems the PM only gets a contribute level access..

    any ideas?

  • Hi Nikki,

    If you go to PWA Settings > Connectioned SharePoint Sites, select the project in question then click synchronize does that then update the permissions? Are these project sites in the PWA site collection? On the EPT settings (the EPT this project is linked to), do you have "Sync User Permissions" enabled?
